Delaware Law School Professor Bruce Grohsgal was recently invited to Washington D.C. to testify on the “Financial Institution Bankruptcy Act of 2017,” in front of The House Judiciary Subcommittee of Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law.

The Committee is chaired by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), other members include Congressman Tom Marino (R-Pa.), Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fl.) and Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI.).

The goal of the “Financial Institution Bankruptcy Act of 2017,” or FIBA, is to facilitate the swift and transparent resolution of a distressed financial institution under the Bankruptcy Code.

Grohsgal’s involvement in real world affairs gives him great gratification.

“It’s a tremendous privilege and benefit to perform this duty and to represent Delaware Law in a positive way,” he said, “Having some effect on the world is one of the central reasons that drove me to this job.”

Professors like Grohsgal not only play a pivotal role in society, but in the classroom as well.

Grohsgal is the Helen S. Balick Visiting Professor in Business Bankruptcy Law at Delaware Law, where he teaches bankruptcy, secured transactions, contracts, and financial regulation, and is a member of the Institute of Delaware Corporate and Business Law. He testified in Washington on March 23.

“To have someone like Professor Grohsgal at Delaware Law is an asset to the students and community that can not be overstated,” said Mike Weinert, Widener University Delaware Law School student. “Professor Grohsgal is unique in his own respect, but at the same time he is cut from the same cloth of the majority professors at Delaware Law – always willing to go above and beyond.”
