From the Operating Room to Commencement

5/17/2021

While commencement is a special day for all of our graduates, 2021 JD graduate Daniel S. Timmerman's day involved an extra wrinkle. Timmerman ended up being late to his own graduation because his day job as a surgeon required him to perform a procedure that ran long.

Despite his best efforts, Dr. Timmerman arrived on the Delaware law campus after the conclusion of the ceremony as the other graduates were celebrating on the campus lawn. Dean Smolla and several faculty members stepped up and organized a special ceremony for Daniel. Dean Smolla praised Dr. Timmerman for his "extraordinary achievements in now having earned degrees in two learned professions, one devoted to healing and the other to justice."

In the summer of 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic raged, Daniel shared expertise in both medicine and law writing the Public Health Law and Policy in the Time of COVID-19 blog.
