Emeritus Professor and former Associate Dean Michael Slinger joined the faculty of the Delaware Law School in 2008 as Director of the Law Library, Associate Dean for Information Services and Professor of Law. He came to Widener’s Delaware Law School after serving for 13 years as Associate Dean and Director of the Law Library at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University. From 1990-95 he served as the Law Library Director and a Professor of Law at Suffolk University School of Law. Earlier in his career he served on the faculty of the University of Notre Dame Law School Library.
He taught both advanced and basic legal research courses as well as a course on the legal issues arising from the American Civil War. He lectures frequently on American Civil War related topics.
Professor Slinger served as a member of the Executive Committee of the American Association of Law Schools Section on Libraries; the American Bar Association Law Libraries Committee; is a past-president of the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries; and served as Chair of the Academic Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries. During his career he frequently served on ABA law school inspection teams throughout the United States.
The author of more than a dozen articles published in law journals and law librarianship publications, he is a two-time winner of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Call for Papers Competition. His most recent publications are: Great Britain and the Confederacy, 12 British Journal of Legal Studies (2023) and The Complete Literature of Law Librarianship. (A multi volume work to be published both in print and as a database by the William S. Hein & Co. in 2024).
