Scott W. Reid '02 Named US Magistrate Judge for Eastern District of Pennsylvania

On May 24, 2021, Delaware Law School alumnus Scott W. Reid '02 will officially be sworn in as as United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Reid's appointment was announced by The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Monday, May 10th.

Reid, who will be the third African American to serve as a Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, will replace Judge Thomas J. Rueter. Prior to his appointment, Reid worked 6 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where among other duties he investigated and prosecuted affirmative cases on behalf of the United States under the False Claims Act, the Controlled Substances Act, and federal civil rights statutes.

Beyond his distinguished legal career, Reid has served as a member of the Widener University School of Law Board of Overseers and been a part of numerous legal organizations including the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates and Minority Bar Committee. A past president for the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Reid also served as chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Diversity in the Profession Committee.

While at Delaware Law School, Reid was a senior staff member for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law and the president of the Black Law Students Association. He also received the Outstanding Student Service Award.
