When Bar Questions Become a Party: Delaware Law’s Signature Spring Showdown

Every spring, just as bar-exam pressure starts to crest, Delaware Law leans into a tradition that turns studying into something students actually look forward to. The process begins early in the semester with weekly multiple-choice questions that are delivered with humor and a chance to win prizes. Students compare answers, cheer each other on, and find comfort in knowing they’re all navigating the same challenges.

The excitement builds toward the culminating live event, a high‑energy experience that transforms a study review into a full‑scale celebration. Students form spirited teams, the audience jumps in on questions, and the room fills with food, music, and the much‑anticipated appearance of the “Celebrity Dog.” A student‑faculty band provides the soundtrack, but it’s often the professors who steal the show. They pack into the jury box, rooting loudly when students choose their category of law, lighting up when someone nails a tricky question from their class, and laughing along when a team stumbles on a topic they swear they covered. Their enthusiasm turns the afternoon into something more than a game—it becomes a moment of connection, encouragement, and shared pride.

“The program gives students a chance to laugh, compete, and realize they’re part of a community that’s behind them every step of the way,” said Alan Garfield, distinguished professor of law.

“If you can answer bar questions in front of your classmates, a band, and a dog, the actual exam starts to feel a lot less intimidating,” Garfield said.

The result is an experience that blends academic preparation with genuine joy, reminding students that even in the most demanding moments of their legal education, they are surrounded by a community that believes in them. It’s a yearly reminder that no one prepares for the bar alone—not at Delaware Law.
