Interested in representing someone who committed a crime long ago, has turned their life around and deserves a second chance? As a Delaware Law student armed with the knowledge that you’ve gained in your first two years of law school, you can represent clients in applying for a Pardon from the Governor of Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania Pardon Clinic
As a student attorney in the Pennsylvania Pardon Clinic, you will learn the ins and outs of the pardon process and the hard work that goes into filing a quality pardon application from Clinic Director Romie Griesmer. This is a perfect opportunity for you to gain experience with client interviewing, counseling, and storytelling.
The Pardon Clinic was an amazing experience. Each client’s story was proof that we shouldn’t be defined by our worst moments. Their redemption was nothing short of inspiring. It is a rewarding feeling to assist a client as they prepare to enter a new chapter of life.

The Pardon Clinic was my most client-centered law school experience. From reviewing records to drafting petitions, the focus remains entirely on the client—helping them tell their story in the most persuasive way possible. Few academic opportunities allow you to simultaneously leverage legal analysis and interpersonal skills while challenging your creativity. It is an invaluable experience that prepares you to continue serving the community through pro bono work as a practitioner, regardless of your practice area.

This clinic gives you real world experience, and I am so grateful for that. Once you are assigned to your client, you are given the reigns! I felt like a real attorney.

Helping someone apply for a pardon isn’t just paperwork, it’s advocacy, empathy, and real-world lawyering all at once. Nothing compares to sitting across from a real client and knowing your work can help rewrite their story.
