As a Delaware Law student, you can make a real difference in the lives of people who have served their country. Working with the Veterans Law Clinic, you can represent disabled Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania veterans and their dependents before the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Federal Courts that handle veterans’ compensation cases. The Veterans Law Clinic offers free legal aid to qualified veterans who have been denied benefits by the Regional Office and wish to take an appeal to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals.
The clinic started as a Veterans Assistance Program in 1997. It was the first of its kind in the country and it grew into the clinic of today, which has recovered more than $9 million in benefits owed to veterans. It has also been honored with the Delaware Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award for Community Service.
Law student interns will assist staff and/or volunteer attorneys who are experienced in veterans’ benefits law with reviewing cases, communicating with clients, representing clients at hearings, writing briefs and advising clients on a course of action for their claim(s).
